There is nothing wrong with you.
I wish I didn’t have to share this again, but I felt called to remind you this as we are experiencing collective colonial trauma.
My Black and Brown and Indigenous relatives, if you are having a hard time, this is an appropriate reaction to colonial violence.
There is nothing wrong with you if you’re struggling. Cry if you need to, having to “be strong “ is a colonial trauma response.
Black & Brown & Indigenous genocide is real and I want you to know that if you are feeling heavy, angry, sad, anxious, it’s all an appropriate reaction to colonialization. We also struggle and perhaps are slower at things than usual because the colonial intergenerational trauma is also activated in us.
It is heavy and the collective pain at the inhumanity is overwhelming at times. This doesn’t make you weak. It is A LOT, and it’s heavy, and it’s long standing.
And so I write this to normalize what you may be feeling so that you don’t pathologize yourself and also as a reminder to be gentle with you and each other.
Take it slow, be intentional , protect your energy, take breaks if you need, rest when you are weary because this is a long fight beloved and it needs to be sustainable.
I repeat the words of Dr Angela Davis that any person interested in changing the world must learn to care for themselves. Breathe mindfully love, ground yourself in our Mother, Earth.
As my elders share, connecting with nature, the plants, the birds, animals, the sky, all of this reminds us how deeply connected and protected we are, even in the midst of the violence.
And this is important dear one because the oppressor and oppressive systems are also designed to kill our spirit, to have our mind in shackles. & so radical self love and radical joy and radical rest become all the more important. We fight yes, but we also nourish ourselves because this is spiritual warfare beloveds and we must focus on our spiritual liberation too.
